My buddy Currey invited me to see British rockers Bloc Party at the last minute. Why didn’t I know these guys? I have to guess their heyday in the mid-2000s just escaped me. I did know frontman Kele from his “Ready to Go” collaboration with Martin Solveig, but that’s it. I have to say, I love going to a concert when you know nothing, yet still connect with the band. Love it when that happens. Kele’s voice sounded great and in some songs like “Positive Tension,” it reminded me of The Cure’s Robert Smith — without all the tortured gloom and goth. Highlights were the manic “Trojan Horse,” tour de guitar-force “Flux,” the beautiful “Blue Light” and “Banquet.” I also liked new song “Day Four” off their upcoming new album, Four, and included a little Rihanna “We Found Love” intro. But my favorite was their closer, “This Modern Love.”
