My first taste of Yuna was last April. The beautiful 26-year-old Malaysian singer-songwriter was the opening act at Emeli Sande‘s very first gig in the U.S. Foolishly, I didn’t write about her. Now it’s her turn.
Playing to a very intimate crowd on a crisp, quiet Monday night at Soho House, Yuna played a number of new songs off her forthcoming album Nocturnal which will release on Oct. 29 on the Verve label. The songs sound more upbeat and pop-tinged than those on her more melodic, R&B flavored 2012 debut. Highlights of her set included her favorite song, ‘Lullabies’ and mine — the new single ‘Rescue.’ Pay attention to this girl because she’s the next to shine.
