It’s mid February and I’m just getting to my first concert of the year. But it was worth the wait to see English electronic duo Gorgon City perform as a live band for the first time in the U.S. Made up of producers Kye Gibbon and Matt Robson-Scott, their first full-length album Sirens was released in October and includes a troupe of budding talent from the U.K. and across the pond here in the U.S.
For their live set, they were joined by astonishingly impressive singers and fellow Brits Josh Barry and Lulu James. I’m going to admit that I’m more than obsessed with Ms. Lulu James. My kind of singer and gorgeous. Josh morphed into the roles of Gorgon City’s recorded guests MNEK on ‘Ready For Your Love,’ Maverick Sabre on ‘Coming Home’ and Zak Abel on ‘Unmissable.’
Lulu perfectly channeled Katy B on ‘Lover Like You,’ (my favorite), Yasmin on ‘Real,’ Katy Menditta on ‘Imagination’ and AnneMarie on ‘Elevate.’ It all came to a disco explosion as she sang over Jennifer Hudson’s track on ‘Go All Night.’ Gorgon City is going to have a huge year. Coachella, Governor’s Ball are just a few of the places you can catch them this Spring and it makes me want to try harder to find tickets.
