I’m woefully late writing this entry for Kelly Clarkson’s show at Radio City Music Hall, but as they say: better late than pregnant. But the joke’s on me because no one knew at the time that Baby Blackstock #2 was on the way.

She opened with one of my favorite tracks off her new album ‘Dance With Me,’ followed by ‘My Life Would Suck Without You’ and the breathtaking ‘Catch My Breath’ from her 2012 greatest hits album. In addition to her lead single ‘Heartbeat Song’ and third single ‘Invincible,’ Clarkson’s masterpiece is the title track, ‘Piece by Piece.’ The close second was ‘Take You High’ as she took us higher than the arched rafters of Radio City. This girl’s pipes never cease to amaze me. I’m a certified, card-carrying fan for life.

Other highlights included her tradition of covering another artists’ material. This time it was Nick Jonas’ ‘Jealous’ but she also covered Jessie J’s ‘Bang Bang’ and sampled a bit of Mark Ronson’s ‘Uptown Funk.’ But it’s still classic Kelly that slays the dragon: ‘Because of You,’ ‘Stronger’ and ‘Since U Been Gone.’ I have to say my favorite moment bar none was hearing her pull ‘The Trouble With Love Is’ from the vault. It begs the question why she hasn’t put out an honest to God soul album yet. Take us higher, Kelly. We’ll go with you.
