Rarely am I inspired to write a post on an opening act, but this kid was just too talented to ignore. Opening for British soul siren Jess Glynne, 20-year-old Canuck Francesco Yates did more than warm up the crowd, he set Bowery Ballroom on fire. While his crazy hair sparked thoughts of Kevin Cronin circa 1970s R.E.O. Speedwagon, his voice is a whole other story. On ‘Change the Channel’ he channels Prince. On ‘Better to Be Loved’ he grooves like vintage Michael Jackson and his killer falsetto on ‘Call’ pays homage to Justin Timberlake. Still, this young singer songwriter has his own flavor sizzling. With Pharrell Williams and Danish producer Robin Hannibal behind the scenes, expect to hear a lot more from this remarkable talent.
