It’s been three years since English singer-songwriter Jessie Ware has been on the scene and her magnificent third album Glasshouse was just released. Perhaps her finest set of songs to date, they reflect a more mature Jessie Ware as wife, new mother and all-around wonderfully funny human being. Fortunate was I to score four tickets to her intimate show at le Poisson Rouge for me and my pals, Maz, Martha and Abe.
She opened with ‘Thinking of You’ off her new album while sporting a sharp bob and a bold ‘graphic eye.’ She’s never looked or sounded better. ‘Alone’ is my favorite song on the new album with ‘Selfish Love’ and lead single ‘Midnight’ as close runners up. Aside from the new material, she also performed some of her finest tracks off her previous two albums including ‘Running,’ ‘If Your Never Gonna Move,’ ‘Kind of… Sometimes… Maybe’ and her best known track, ‘Wildest Moments.’ But she saved the best for last by first requesting everyone to lower their cell phones, be in the moment and just sing along to ‘Say You Love Me.’ Stunning. She’s so good. She closed with ‘Sam,’ an homage to her family: ‘it’s just Sam, my baby and me.’
